What is ¡Nueva York!?

this cd is the sound of my band and I working with our latino friends here in nueva york with these songs continuing to be an important part of the song bag here in the us of a, telling us stories, making us laugh, making us cry, making us hungry and making us dance. and building bridges - the parties are in english and spanish and the music is pulling us all together, shaping a new national identity.

we were so fortunate to be joined by our friends lila downs, marc ribot, daphne rubin-vega, mexican trio the villa-lobos brothers, spoken word poet caridad de la luz aka la bruja, afro-colombian roots ensemble la cumbiamba eneyé, renowned argentine guitarist quique sinesi, frequent zanes collaborators the rubí theater company, sonia de los santos from monterrey, mexico, the newest member of the band who all played a huge part in making this album one of festive possibilities. and of course elena, john, colin and saskia for once again being the best band anyone could ask for.

while the conversations about who should and shouldn’t live here in the u.s. rages on, we’re having a 21st century party celebrating some of the amazing culture that’s come here from various parts of latin america. the spirit of collaboration and friendship has made this the most emotional and exciting of the dan zanes and friends cds for me.
